Locally Made Shutters in Northern Ireland – 9 Key Benefits

At Village Blinds and Shutters, we take immense pride in our 30 years of experience in the window treatment industry. Our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction led us to a significant decision in 2020: to start manufacturing our plantation shutters right here in Northern Ireland. This move has brought numerous benefits to both our customers and our company. Here’s why we chose to make this shift and how it benefits everyone involved.

A Response to Supply Chain Challenges

In the wake of the 2020 lockdowns, global supply chains were severely disrupted. Our Managing Director, Harold, was increasingly disillusioned with the stretched supply lines and substandard quality of outsourced window shutters. The delays and inconsistencies in quality control made it clear that we needed a new approach. Harold decided to invest in plant machinery, staffing, and raw materials to produce high-quality, reinforced composite plantation shutters locally. This decision marked the beginning of a new era for Village Blinds and Shutters.

Benefits for Everyone from Shutters Made in Northern Ireland

1. Superior Quality Control

When we outsourced our shutters, we often faced challenges in maintaining consistent quality. By bringing the production in-house, we have complete control over every step of the manufacturing process. This means that our shutters meet the highest standards of craftsmanship. Our mantra is simple: “Good enough isn’t good enough.” We insist on the very best standards for our customers, ensuring each shutter we produce is a masterpiece of durability and aesthetics.

2. Locally Made Shutters = Faster Delivery Times

One of the most significant advantages of local manufacturing is the reduction in lead times. Previously, we were at the mercy of long shipping times from Asia or Eastern Europe. Now, with our production facility in Northern Ireland, we can be much more agile. This agility allows us to deliver and install our shutters much faster, providing our customers with a more efficient and satisfying experience. It also means we can better manage our inventory and production schedules, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency.

This intimate understanding of the product allows us to offer better advice and customisation options to our customers. Whether it’s a unique window shape or a specific design preference, our local manufacturing capabilities enable us to tailor our products to meet the exact needs of our clients. This expertise also allows us to innovate and improve our products continually, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the industry.

5. Sustainable Practices

Local manufacturing is also more environmentally friendly. By reducing the need for long-distance shipping of finished products, we drastically lower our carbon footprint. Additionally, we have more control over the sourcing of our raw materials, allowing us to choose sustainable options. This commitment to sustainability is important to us and to many of our customers who are conscious of their environmental impact. Our efforts to reduce waste and use eco-friendly materials reflect our dedication to preserving the environment for future generations.

6. Control Over Our Destiny

By producing our shutters in-house, we are less reliant on external suppliers. This autonomy allows us to control our own destiny. We are not subject to the whims of international markets or shipping delays. This control means we can consistently provide our customers with the high-quality products they expect. It also allows us to react quickly to market changes and customer demands, ensuring that we remain competitive and relevant in an ever-changing industry.

7. Customer Trust and Loyalty

When customers know that their shutters are made locally, they feel a stronger connection to the product and to our company. This connection fosters trust and loyalty. Customers appreciate knowing that their shutters are crafted with care and precision right here in Northern Ireland. This trust translates into long-term relationships and repeat business, which are invaluable to us. Our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is reflected in every shutter we produce, building a loyal customer base that values our products and services.

8. Flexibility and Adaptability

Having our manufacturing facility close to home gives us the flexibility to adapt quickly to changing market demands and customer preferences. If a new trend emerges or a customer has a specific request, we can respond swiftly. This adaptability ensures that we remain competitive and relevant in the ever-evolving market of window treatments. It also allows us to experiment with new designs and materials, pushing the boundaries of what is possible and setting new standards in the industry.

9. Community and Brand Identity

Manufacturing locally has strengthened our brand identity. We are proud to be a company that supports local craftsmanship and the community. This pride is reflected in our marketing and customer interactions. Village Blinds and Shutters Home Appointments FAQ

Our design consultant will arrive at the agreed time slot and ask you questions about your requirements and style preferences to help understand your project. They will measure your windows and discuss fabric/material options and provide you with a quotation based on your choices.

Depending on your requirements, a home appointment can take from 30 minutes for 1-10 blinds, to 60 minutes for 10+ blinds or window shutters. Our design consultant will work at your pace and we’re happy to stay longer to talk through your options and provide advice if you’d like.

We would ask ahead of the home appointment that you have arranged clear access to the window areas being measured and that any obstructing furniture or breakables near the windows are removed.

Once the windows are in, plastering has been completed and any tiling or skirting or architrave that might be close to the blinds has been installed. This will allow our design consultant to take accurate measurements.

Usually, our design consultant will be able to provide you with your quotation during your appointment.  Sometimes for some very bespoke projects pricing can take a little longer. If you haven’t heard back within 24 hours, give them a call or email and they will keep you updated.

Our production team work tirelessly to craft every single blind and shutter for our customers individually. Lead in times can vary depending on factors such as material availability and our production schedule. That being said we will always work to get your order as quickly as possible. Ask your design consultant for an up-to-date lead time estimate.
