At Village Blinds and Shutters, we recently completed the installation of café style shutters in a beautiful North Belfast home. This project highlights how custom-made shutters can enhance both the interior and exterior decor of a property, particularly when combined with stunning features like stained glass windows. In this blog, we’ll explore how these plantation shutters complement the home’s aesthetic and the practical benefits they offer.

Why Choose Café Style Shutters for Your Home?

Café Style Shutters: The Perfect Fit for Classic Decor

Café style shutters are a popular choice for homeowners seeking a balance between privacy and natural light. Covering only the lower half of the window, these shutters allow light to enter from the top, making them perfect for rooms with bay windows or stained glass windows where the upper part of the window is a decorative feature. In this North Belfast project, the white café shutters framed the intricate glasswork, showcasing the beauty of the window while providing privacy.

Enhancing Period Features with Café Shutters

Enhancing the Home’s Period FeaturesThis North Belfast home features a striking bay window, a common architectural feature in Belfast’s period properties. By opting for plantation shutters tailored specifically for the window’s shape, the homeowners achieved a perfect blend of modern functionality and classic style. The bay window shutters offer a neat, clean look from the outside, enhancing the kerb appeal of the home. With their white finish, they also create a fresh contrast against the red-brick exterior, highlighting the home’s period features

The stained glass adds character to the home, bringing a burst of colour that elevates the room’s aesthetic. By choosing café style shutters, the homeowners have allowed the windows to become a central feature, while still ensuring their privacy. The shutters also tie in perfectly with the wood paneling, giving a cohesive, elegant finish to the room

These interior window shutters not only complement the home’s classic features but also provide flexibility with adjustable louvres. The homeowners can easily control the amount of light that enters the room, making the shutters both practical and stylish.

The café style shutters are visible from the outside, where they complement the period details of the property. The contrast between the clean, white shutters and the brick exterior adds a fresh, modern touch, yet the overall effect remains timeless.

The installation of shutters on the ground floor windows adds to the home’s kerb appeal. Why Plantation Shutters are Perfect for Bay Windows

Bay window shutters are designed to fit the unique shape of the window, offering a sleek solution that maintains the window’s elegance. By covering only the lower half of the window, the café style shutters ensure that the upper portion, featuring the home’s stunning stained glass, remains visible. This is especially important in period homes like this one in North Belfast, where original features are a key part of the home’s charm.

Café Style Shutters in a Characterful North Belfast Home FAQ

1. What are café style shutters?

Café style shutters are window treatments that cover the lower half of your windows, allowing natural light to enter through the top half while providing privacy from the bottom. This style is popular for its balance of privacy and light, and it also offers a classic, timeless aesthetic.

2. How do café style shutters differ from full-height shutters?

Café style shutters only cover the bottom portion of the window, whereas full-height shutters cover the entire window. Café shutters are ideal if you want privacy at eye level while still allowing natural light to stream through the upper portion of your window.

3. Are café style shutters suitable for all window types?

Café style shutters work best on taller windows or windows with decorative upper sections, such as stained glass or transom windows. They are especially popular in bay windows, as they enhance both the interior and exterior view.

4. Can café style shutters be adjusted to control light?

Yes, the louvres on café style shutters are fully adjustable. You can tilt the slats to control the amount of light entering the room while maintaining privacy from the outside.

5. Do café style shutters provide privacy?

Yes, café style shutters provide privacy by covering the lower half of the window, shielding your room from outside views at eye level. This makes them ideal for ground floor windows or homes in busy areas.

6. Are café style shutters easy to clean and maintain?

Yes, café style shutters are easy to maintain. The louvres can be wiped clean with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Since they are made from durable materials, they are also resistant to wear and tear over time.

7. Can café style shutters be fitted to bay windows?

Absolutely! Café style shutters are a popular choice for bay windows because they provide privacy at the lower level while still allowing the upper part of the window to showcase the view or any decorative features like stained glass.

8. How do café style shutters enhance kerb appeal?

Village Blinds and Shutters Home Appointments FAQ

Our design consultant will arrive at the agreed time slot and ask you questions about your requirements and style preferences to help understand your project. They will measure your windows and discuss fabric/material options and provide you with a quotation based on your choices.

Depending on your requirements, a home appointment can take from 30 minutes for 1-10 blinds, to 60 minutes for 10+ blinds or window shutters. Our design consultant will work at your pace and we’re happy to stay longer to talk through your options and provide advice if you’d like.

We would ask ahead of the home appointment that you have arranged clear access to the window areas being measured and that any obstructing furniture or breakables near the windows are removed.

Once the windows are in, plastering has been completed and any tiling or skirting or architrave that might be close to the blinds has been installed. This will allow our design consultant to take accurate measurements.

Usually, our design consultant will be able to provide you with your quotation during your appointment.  Sometimes for some very bespoke projects pricing can take a little longer. If you haven’t heard back within 24 hours, give them a call or email and they will keep you updated.

Our production team work tirelessly to craft every single blind and shutter for our customers individually. Lead in times can vary depending on factors such as material availability and our production schedule. That being said we will always work to get your order as quickly as possible. Ask your design consultant for an up-to-date lead time estimate.
